God Writes the Stories of Our Lives
Novel writing is so relevant to our walks with God. Our stories begin with wounded, flawed characters who desperately need help. We determine the truth our characters need to learn—their epiphanies, and design journeys that will bring them to a point of revelation that demands a choice. A decision that will ultimately change their lives for the better. Forever.
- Story or Plot—where is the balance? Our story, spiritual/emotional walk, takes time to nurture. But how much can we carve out as we trudge forward with our plot, the daily demands that absorb great amounts of time and energy?
- A novel must begin with a hook to grab the reader’s attention. How can we provide hooks in our spiritual lives that will draw others to know more about God’s love and salvation?
- Act One—a time to create the character’s ordinary world so our readers will care enough for the character to root for her/him all the way through the story. Can we, as Christians, take time to get to know the ordinary lives of those we interact with on a daily basis? To let them know we care and will be there for them through thick and thin?
Facing Facts in a World of Fiction
The choice to acknowledge and face the truth is almost never an easy or comfortable option. But in the long run, the truth will change our lives for the better as it sets us free to be all God has created us to be … in Him.
- Life can be rough, yet we pretend to be fine. Vulnerability is frightening.
- We’ve been wounded in the past and walk, often unknowingly, in hurtful lies perpetrated by these experiences.
- The world insists we need constant stimulation, yet our souls long for quiet time with God. Do our lives reflect that with which we spend the most time?
Lord, Take My Spinach and Give Me Your Spirit
From an early age, we strive to be strong—independent and self-sufficient. To function without signs of stress. Weakness, we believe, implies an inadequacy.
- God uses trials to reveal just how self-reliant we have become.
- God allows circumstances to deplete our strength so we will know the limits thereof and can be introduced to His supernatural strength that knows no limit.
- When we are at our lowest, God gives us His Highest.
