Are you struggling with daily physical or emotional pain? Do you sometimes wonder if life is worth living? If there is a reason to continue?
As I read the first chapter of John this evening, I remembered a time when such darkness threatened my life.
A severe migraine refused to leave, no matter what I tried. I cried out to God, begging Him to take the pain. But the thought that popped into my mind was not from God. If you take that whole bottle of pain pills, the pain will have to go away. That’s the only way you can be sure to get rid of it.
I recognized the darkness. The tempting voice of the enemy. But that said, I momentarily considered following the advice. I was hurting that badly. I was that afraid that I couldn’t handle the pain any longer.
Once again, I cried out to God. A new thought came. Put down the warm wash cloth and relax your eyes.
Seriously? The warm cloth was the only thing helping at the moment. But I followed God’s leading, and He worked a miracle. As I purposely relaxed my eyelids, I felt a gentle finger massaging my eyes with oil. Then my forehead. Over and over until the pain eased and I fell asleep. The hand of God.
When I woke hours later, the pain was gone. I realized the grip that darkness had had on me, and I thanked God for His light. As I wrote a prayer of thanks in my journal, the following words came to me. I’d never written a poem before, but the Holy Spirit gave me the words and I wrote the entire poem in just a matter of minutes.
Please allow the truth below to soak into your spirit and bring the warmth of God’s love and light to your life.
True Light shines best in darkness.
Isolation. Loneliness. Pain.
For where other light is present, True Light is sadly misperceived.
Unnecessary. Incomprehensible. Nonexistent.
Other light, though truly begotten by True Light,
Fades into deception as it creeps from its source, seeking a dim path of its own.
Glory to pride. Knowledge to ignorance. Revelation to confusion.
Darkness demands a real answer.
A way out.
A source with eternal power behind it.
A Light that will outshine all others in the deepest chasm.
True Light preceded, surpasses, and dispels darkness.
Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world.”
