I just finished reading the Hunger Games Trilogy. To be honest, I almost stopped after the first chapter. I had no desire to enter such a dark, sad world where people are pitted against one another under unbearable circumstances. But what I found as I moved into the meat of the book, was that the plot centered around relationships. Alliances. Human interaction.
The author didn’t introduce me personally to many of the contestants, so I wasn’t as horrified and grieved when they died. That made me think about my relationships in life. It’s easy to become apathetic to the pain and suffering of those we never take time to really get to know. Easy to pop in church and pop back out, dressed in a mask to hide our true selves and keep others out.
Galatians 6:2 commands us to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way … fulfill the law of Christ.”
And John 15:13 points out that “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
God has truly spoken to my heart through this series.
In Matthew 11:28-29, Christ calls us to Himself. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Perhaps you’d like to join me as I pray that God will open my heart to the needs around me and allow me to share the great love He has shown to me.
